老侯退休后选择住在市中心较远的生活社区，是为了远离城市的喧嚣，寻找更宁静、悠闲的生活。然而，由于儿子侯飞工作繁忙，无法经常陪伴，老侯感到孤独和缺乏社交。 在新社区，许多人家都养狗，但老侯却是一个不喜欢狗的人。
老侯在散步时心脏病发作，被一只流浪狗发现，并及时送到医院。这一事件改变了老侯的生活轨迹。由于心脏病发作，老侯被迫与一只流浪狗生活在一起，并给它起名为“伴儿”。与“伴儿”的相处中，老侯逐渐发现自己对狗并没有想象中的反感。相反，狗的陪伴让老侯变得更加开朗，同时也使他有了新的社交圈子，认识了新朋友。在社区中，老侯遇到了住在对门的退休护士诸葛迎春。两人因为“伴儿”而相互产生了好感。
