电影讲述了经历中年危机的郝帅突然得知10岁儿子多多与自己没有血缘关系，于是带着多多踏上了“西部换子之旅”，并告诉多多这是一次”暑期成长计划“。火车上，多多得知爸爸的真实计划后而赌气出走，人小鬼大的多多一个人抵达西部，开始享受独特的”美好时光“，而下错火车的郝帅追悔莫及，一路经历各种囧事，寻找多多。而另一边在西部乡间的多多生父金大发知道多多走失后，也派人寻找。虽表面配合郝帅，实则暗藏私心，想尽办法准备将养子和生子都据为己有。最终，郝帅辗转千回在金大发家找到多多，他们也见到各自的儿子；但此刻一场”鸿门宴“也即将展开。站在人性的十字路口，是血缘还是真情重要？这就像上天开了一个玩笑，也更像是馈赠给彼此的一份礼物。
