艾利亚斯（麦斯·米科尔森 Mads Mikkelsen 饰）和盖布里尔（大卫·丹席克 David Dencik 饰）虽然是情同手足的兄弟，却有着截然不同的性格。盖布里尔在大学里教书，过着拮据而又孤独的生活，而向来风流不羁的艾利亚斯则流连于女人堆中，自由而又快活。 一天，两兄弟接到了一个意外的电话，得知了父亲去世的消息，在父亲留下的录影带中，两人震惊的发现，他们竟然不是父亲的亲生孩子，而他们真正的父亲，此时此刻正生活在奥克尼郡岛上。于是，艾利亚斯和盖布里尔踏上了前往奥克尼郡岛的旅途，可到了那里之后，他们才发现，岛上的一切，和他们想象中的是那样的不同。
